The Basics of a Travel Camera

Travel camera

Choosing the right camera when traveling is as essential as it is difficult. This is especially difficult for those who don’t know much about cameras. Here are some simple tips to help you make a smart choice.

The camera gear should be determined by the photos you want to take.

You should first determine what photos you want to take before you go out and purchase photographing equipment. Do you want to take professional traveling photographs? some simple but good quality vacation photos?

There are 2 simple pieces of advice to consider when purchasing a traveling camera as a beginner:

  1. Consider getting a mirrorless camera. Cameras which have mirrors are quite heavy to carry around, for example, DSLR (digital single-lens reflex). These cameras have a mirror which reflects the light from the lens so it hits the sensor that records the image. There is new technology in the market of cameras that do all that the DSLR does without the weight of the mirror. Mirrorless cameras can also fit in any handbag or backpack.
  2. Invest more money in a good lens than on the camera body itself. Lenses make a much bigger difference in the final photo quality than the camera type. The kind of lens you buy should always depend on the type of photos you want to take.
  • You should go for the wide angle lenses if you plan on taking landscape and architecture photos.
  • Go for prime lenses if you want to take photos of people and nightlife photos as they allow you to take photos in low lighting conditions. This lens can open wider and in more light thus can take photos in little light.
  • If you are a nature lover and you plan on taking photos from a far distance you should get telephoto lenses. These lenses are usually very massive and can allow you to zoom in on tiny things which are far away. They are really expensive and massive and cumbersome to carry around.
  • If you don’t have a clue what type of photos you want to take, get yourself a multipurpose lens. This offers you shooting flexibility with features for both a wide angle lens and telephoto lens. The multipurpose lens is convenient in that you don’t need to keep changing your lens each time you want to take a different photo. It is also easily portable as it’s not that big.

The problems caused by changing lenses are:

  • You lose time by fumbling with lenses and sometimes lose the moment you wanted to capture.
  • Lets dust into your camera and lens and mess up your sensor which can be really expensive and time-consuming to clean up.

Your budget matters. More important, the amount of money you have should dictate what kind of camera and how much you spend on it. Do not spend too much on the camera only to be left short on your travel allowance. A good idea is to save way ahead of time for the camera you want.

I hope this article was of help to you. Happy travels. 🙂

Self-discovery always helps in improving self-esteem

Travelling makes you a better person, both inside and out. You get to acquire new tastes, meet new people and practice new healthy hobbies. You find a new self-drive and self-love when you go out and about

You’ll constantly have to communicate with strangers

The secret to effective communication is to ignore your social awkward tendencies. In fact, embarrassing moments make for the best of tales for your family and friends when you come back home. So long as you are making an effort to express yourself, don’t feel embarrassed. Most locals actually applaud the effort and will help you any way that they can.

Travel is a form of exercise, too

Keeping fit can take many forms such as; walking up a flight of stairs, running to the train station or even something as mundane as waiting in line for a chance to behold the Mona Lisa. All these activities torch calories and keep your heart-rate up. Although we prioritize the glamor of paintings and scenery on social media, we should appreciate the effort we take to get these things done.

You get to put your foreign language skills to use

Speaking foreign languages to locals can be a challenge because there is a chance of being misunderstood. To prevent this from happening, install basic free travel apps like Triplingo on your mobile gadget and you will be good to go.

Minimalist living

Packing lightly allows you to set priorities by getting by with just the basics. Over-shopping and hoarding baggage also takes an emotional form. You feel as though you have lost all control when your room is in a mess and you can’t find what you are looking for. Declutter your suitcase and your mind and you will be sure to enjoy your trip.

Realizing that solitude is not a solution

Traveling alone has its perks. You don’t have to hear your nagging relatives or fussy friends. Traveling solo can sometimes be even harder without company but it doesn’t have to be. Start a conversation with the person sitting next to you on the bus or restaurant. You might just make a lifelong and life-changing friendship. Mingling with new people broadens your perspective.

Better decision-making skills

Traveling alone forces you to make decisions that will impact your whole journey. You have no choice but to suffer the consequences of a bad decision. What’s important is realizing the mistake and choosing to learn from it. Good decision-making skills build confidence and allow you to trust your instincts.

So, there you have it. With these 7 tips, there’s no doubt that traveling far and wide will work towards improving self-esteem.
